UNJSPF joins the call to empower women on International Women’s Day

11 March 2025

On Friday, 7 March, the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund joins the UN system in celebrating International Women’s Day.

The United Nations system marked this year’s International Women’s Day under the theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” Central to the theme and vision is empowering the next generation.

Empowering younger women

The Fund joined the call by participating in the event at UN headquarters and organizing a special event at its New York office. At this occasion, a video was launched, with women professionals in IT reflecting on their experiences working for the Fund and encouraging younger women to join the field. The video is available on the UNJSPF’s YouTube channel and can be watched here.

UNJSPF gender strategy

The Fund works hard to achieve women empowerment and gender equality in the workplace.

Over 53 per cent of UNJSPF staff members are women, and leadership is committed to implementing the UNJSPF gender strategy across four main areas: (1) leadership and accountability; (2) recruitment, outreach, training and retention; (3) professional training and development; and (4) creating an enabling environment.

“This International Women’s Day, the UNJSPF stands with the UN system in supporting equal rights and opportunities for all,” says Chief Executive of Pension Administration, Rosemarie McClean.

The official UN Women website offers information about this year's campaign for Women's Day 2025 and explains why this day is more important than ever as it marks the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the UN Plan to achieve a better world for women and girls.
