Read on to know how you can comply with the Certificate of Entitlement requirement and how to check whether any action may be required from you. Please act immediately if your 2022 Certificate of Entitlement is outstanding.
Normally, the Fund must receive your annual Certificate of Entitlement (CE) by 31 December each year to prevent the suspension of your regular monthly benefit payments. If you have not, yet, complied with this requirement, the Fund will exceptionally accept submission of a valid proof of life for 2022 until 19 May 2023. If, by that deadline, the Fund has not received your proof of life, it will have to suspend the regular payment of your monthly pension payments effective end of June 2023.
Each year, prior to suspending the payment of monthly pension benefits due to non-receipt by the Fund of a valid proof of life from retirees and beneficiaries concerned, the Fund carries out an extensive follow-up exercise in an effort to locate the retirees/beneficiaries unaccounted for and inform them of what is required to prevent the suspension of their benefit payments. The Fund is assisted in this exercise by Staff Pension Committees and Pension Focal Points of member organizations, as well as retiree associations worldwide. By doing so, the Fund seeks to significantly reduce the number of benefit suspensions.
How can I check if the Fund has an acceptable proof of life from me for 2022?
Option 1: If you submitted your 2022 CE form to the Fund:
You can visit the “Proof Documents” tab inside your Member Self-Service (MSS) portal and check the CE receipt date. If you see that the Fund has received your 2022 CE, there is nothing to worry about and no further action is required from you at this time.
Option 2: If you used the Digital Certificate of Entitlement (DCE) Mobile Phone Application to submit your biometric proof of life inside the app in 2022 and/or 2023:
You should have received a confirmation email on the date you issued your DCE. You can also check the validity date of your most recently submitted DCE inside the DCE App; if your latest DCE is valid till year end 2022 or 2023, all is well. As long as you have the DCE confirmation email from last year and/or confirm successful issuance of your 2022 or 2023 DCE inside your DCE App, there is nothing to worry about and no further action is required from you at this time.
What should I do if I have NOT, yet, submitted my 2022 CE/proof of life to the Fund (either the 2022 CE form, OR the 2022 or 2023 Digital CE)?
There are a few ways to submit your Certificate of Entitlement (CE) to avoid the suspension of your benefit:
USING THE DIGITAL CE (DCE) APP:
OR
USING THE CERTIFICATE OF ENTITLEMENT (CE) FORM:
If you cannot use the DCE App or access your 2022 CE form, you can submit a letter with your full name, official address, Unique UNJSPF ID (UID), the date and your ORIGINAL signature to the Fund in one of the manners explained above. The letter must include the subject line “Non-receipt of the 2022 CE”.
