Egypt is an important location for the UN family and the Pension Fund, which counts about 1,500 UNJSPF active participants, including close to one third older than 50 years.

As part of the Fund’s continuous outreach efforts, two Section Heads of the New York Office completed a mission to Cairo, Egypt, from 02 to 04 December 2019, with the objective to provide pension-related information to the active and former staff of the UN organizations as well as staff with pension functions.

Ms. Christine Cartner, Chief of the Client Services and Records Management and Distribution Section, and Mr. Bernie Sheehan, Chief of the Pension Entitlement Section, conducted a Pension Townhall for the staff of all UN organizations present in Cairo, as well as a specific Pre-Retirement Pension Townhall. They held several pension workshops, a dedicated training session for pension focal points in human resources (HR) and finance and an In-Retirement Briefing Session for Fund retirees and beneficiaries.

“Approximately 300 participants and beneficiaries attended the various outreach activities provided by the Fund in Cairo,” said Ms. Cartner.

“We are grateful to all organizations who participated and especially UNICEF for facilitating all these meetings,” Mr. Sheehan added.

Face-to-face meetings remain an important communication channel for the Fund’s Client Services, in addition to outreach carried out via video conference and information provided via mail and phone to inform the Fund’s members and constituents about pension matters. The Fund organizes all year long information sessions to various country and field offices where the Fund’s member organizations have staff members participating in the Fund.
